Abstract:
Discusses the influence of Hitler's seizure of power on Polish nationalism. Despite the formal refusal to advocate antisemitism in its racist forms, various racist elements can be found in Endecja's press. Publicists asserted that the Jews, together with the Prussians, were responsible for all of Poland's tragedies. Endecja's anti-Jewish campaign of 1935-39, during an economic crisis and growing economic rivalry between Poles and Jews, produced a considerable growth in the organization. Quotes reactions of the Endecja press to various events in Germany, among them anti-Jewish legislation, boycotts, "Kristallnacht", expulsion of Polish Jews from Germany, etc. States that, in general, this press approved the Nazis' acts against Jews. Concludes that the practical measures against the Jewish population aroused much more interest in the Polish nationalistic camp than did the ideology accompanying them.
