Abstract:
The "Schwabenspiegel" was a legal code, written ca. 1275 by a Franciscan friar in Augsburg. It dealt mainly with questions of land ownership and fiefdom, and was based on the Pentateuch, on Roman law, and on Canon law. It followed the early 13th century "Sachsenspiegel", and was immediately dependent on the" Deutschenspiegel" code. The code mentions restrictions placed on the Jews, and also on Christians who were forbidden to have sexual relations with Jews. If such a case was brought before the authorities, both the man and woman must be put to death. Blood libels arose in Swabia in the 15th century.
