Abstract:
Presents a translation into English of contemporary press and police reports on the events of 1912, among them (on pp. 48-52) an excerpt from the memoirs of a Polish Jewish journalist, Bernard Singer, entitled "Moje Nalewki" (published in Warsaw in 1959). He describes a boycott of Jews and Jewish-owned businesses in Poland in 1912 advocated by nationalistic circles. The demand for a boycott was due to the results of elections for the Warsaw representative to the Russian Duma. A Polish socialist was elected with the widespread support of Jewish voters. Singer describes and comments on the events related to the election and to the boycott in Warsaw. The events sparked a wave of antisemitic propaganda in the nationalist press.
