Abstract:
Discusses the position of Muslims, Serbs, and Jews in the fascist Croatian state set up in April 1941 which incorporated Bosnia and Hercegovina. The Muslims' position was complex due to the desire on the part of both Serbs and Croats to win them over to their side, while at the same time they were discriminated against as a religious minority. While some Muslims supported and participated in actions against Jews and looting of their property, many others joined the communist partisans. States that most of them called for religious tolerance (including cessation of persecution of the Jews), although their actions belied their words in many cases.
