Abstract:
During the the Vel d'Hiv roundup, 18 Jews were arrested in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Bretagne. They were transferred from Rennes to Angers, and 14 were deported to Auschwitz on 20 July. The Nazis had fixed the quota for the area at 40. A child, whose parents were arrested on 16 July, was arrested and deported four months later. From current-day Bretagne, which includes four departments, a total of 268 Jews were deported; all but eight of them perished. In 1940 the number of registered Jews there was approximately 1,000.
