Abstract:
Discusses possible responses to the questions of the uniqueness of the Holocaust and of Christian responsibility for it. Nazi anti-Jewish legislation, although based on racist ideology, also introduced religious criteria (baptism) and identified the Jewish religion with the Jewish "race". To fight the Jews meant also to reject Jewish ethics and monotheism. Comments on some features of the Nazi "Final Solution", such as the perversity of its motivations and methods and the radicalism of its execution. Notes also Christian responsibility for popular anti-Judaism, which contributed to the general atmosphere of indifference and passivity of the Christian nations (despite many individual cases of intervention and aid).
