Abstract:
Discusses changes that have evolved in the American Evangelical movement - from a movement characterized by minority hatred and Southern fanaticism it is now conspicuous for its lack of racism and antisemitism, focusing instead on anti-communism and anti-abortion. The Christian Right has gone beyond tolerance of Jews to a vigorous support of Israel (in particular, Jerry Falwell), although the reaction of the Jewish community is mixed due to the underlying reason - i.e. the belief that before the Second Coming of Christ the Jews will be reunited in Israel and convert to Christianity.
