Abstract:
Reviews the positions of post-Holocaust Jewish thinkers on the relationship between historical events and theological implications, including three covenant revisionists - Richard Rubenstein, Elie Wiesel, and Emil Fackenheim. Rubenstein sees an end to the covenant, while Wiesel and Fackenheim search for points of continuity. also discusses the views of Michael Wyschogrod, Eliezer Berkovits, Harold Schulweis, and Jacob Neusner. Suggests that lessons to be learned from the Holocaust include the moral example of the victims, questioning the use of power, and eliminating those religious teachings and actions that diminish our humanity.
