Abstract:
Among the wealth of chronicles, diaries, testimonies, documents, and fictions of survivors, literary sources occupy a special place. To analyze the problem of hunger, three texts are selected: Primo Levi’s Survival in Auschwitz (1947), Tadeusz Borowski’s In ours in Auschwitz (1946) and Imre Kertész novel Fateless (1975).The memorial literature of the concentration camps, as an authentic document or in the form of literary fiction, translates the torments of hunger and thirst into language and fixes the body memory of the hungry in a form that opens up to the reader even after many decades, and repeatedly shocks even with repeated readings.
