Abstract:
Ca. 1,000 Viennese Jewish men of Polish origin, who had lost their Polish citizenship and were denied Austrian citizenship, were arrested by the Nazis in September 1939 and interned in a stadium prior to deportation to Buchenwald. Biographical and physiognomic data on 440 of these were recorded at the time by an Austrian Anthropological Commission. One of these was Osias R. (b. 1897 in Sokal, Galicia - d. November 1939 in Buchenwald). Tries, here, to reconstruct the story of his life, but can only conjecture whether his shop was plundered and his family expelled from their home, as happened to so many Viennese Jews.
