Abstract:
Describes the small, dispersed and aging Jewish community in Czechoslovakia (5,000-6,000 persons registered officially). The Czech Jews feel that, although antisemitism may exist, it is not a widespread prejudice, but they have to contend with the institutionalization of antisemitism by the Communist Party - the suspicion of Jews, limitation of their cultural expression, and a hard line towards Israel. Discusses the efforts of a small number of Jews to actively pursue a Jewish life, hampered by lack of educational resources.
