Kurzfassung:
Presents Fackenheim's criticism of the philosophy of Heidegger and its relation to the Holocaust. Notes the lack of a universal dimension in Heidegger's view and focuses on its exclusivism. One aspect was an emphasis on the "Volk", which is associated with his surrender to Nazism. This philosophy is characterized as neo-paganism, the relativism of which includes Nazism as a legitimate option. Fackenheim was concerned with Heidegger's philosophical failure, not his personal support for Hitler. He also criticized Heidegger for his inability, even after the war, to hear the voices of the Nazis' victims. He saw Heidegger as a representative of post-modern moral relativism, which Fackenheim believed led to moral paralysis.
