Abstract:
Discusses and rejects the reasons given by opponents of the performance of Wagner's music in Israel, arguing that Wagner's antisemitism does not appear in his works and therefore is irrelevant, as are his proto-Nazism, the use made of him by the Nazis, and his role as a symbol. The only valid consideration is for the feelings of Holocaust survivors (but not of others who may also consider themselves hurt), and therefore orchestras should abstain for the present from performing Wagner's music, but this abstention is limited in time.
