Abstract:
Examines the text in Galatians, interpreting it as a sort of radical, "heretical" midrash in support of Paul's new understanding of Judaism. Claims that it is inappropriate to view Paul's thought as antisemitic, or even anti-Judaic. For him, the salvation of Jews is conditional on their abandoning their separate religious identity and historical practices, which became vestigial after Jesus. In Galatians, Paul is not inimical to Jews, but to Jewish difference.
