Abstract:
Presents a collection of laws concerning Jews, excerpted from Roman common law, especially from the Justinian Code (4th century), from the canonic laws collected by Gratian (12th century), from laws and decrees by the Popes Gregory IX and Boniface VIII, and from the "Siete Partidas" of King Alfonso X. They cover regulation of almost every aspect of the social, economic, and political life of the Jews in Christian Europe, including Spain, during the Middle Ages. The collection is divided into subjects: the legal status of Jews, the relationship of Christians to Jews, public institutions and Jews, and particular restrictions. An appendix recounts special rights of the Church regarding Jews (i.e. punishment of Jews).
