Abstract:
Analyzes the status of the Jews in medieval Spain, arguing that the famous "convivencia" was in fact a mere coexistence, and that a multitude of laws and dispositions in fact segregated the Jews from the Christians (although not all of them were strictly enforced). States that the Church grew increasingly hostile towards the Jews after 1215, and that the presence of the Conversos as a societal group only aggravated the situation that led to the 1492 expulsion.
