Abstract:
Discusses the controversial and anonymous Christian work "Corte Enperial" (in Spanish, "Corte Imperial"), produced in Portugal in the second half of the 14th century. It presents the character called "Rainha Catolica" (Catholic Queen, personifying the Catholic Church), who conducts a dialogue with a pagan, a Muslim, and a group of rabbis, arguing against their theological views. Regarding the Jews, the subjects under dispute were the dogmas of the Trinity and of the Incarnation, and the Eucharist. The outcome of the dialogue is that the Jews cannot be convinced about the rightness of Christian dogma, and consequently they cannot be saved from their "perfidy". States that "perfidy" is used in the sense of betraying or confounding the truth. In the view of the author of "Corte Enperial", if the Jews had abandoned their views and recognized Christian truths, they would become morally acceptable.
