Abstract:
Traces the biography and analyzes the writings of Levinas, the French Jewish philosopher, who was born in Lithuania in 1906 and emigrated to France in 1923. The theme of Auschwitz is present in his writings between 1955-60 and after 1967. Levinas underlines the uniqueness of the fate of the Jews during the Second World War, which cannot be compared to other disasters in wartime. Analyzes some of Levinas' philosophical concepts. Many of his views have their sources in his study of the Talmud, which led him to concentrate on the importance of ethics - in relation to the "Other", and in philosophy in general. Levinas criticized Western culture as partly responsible for the disasters of the 20th century.
