Abstract:
Examines the impact of the Shoah on the "nouveau roman" (1950-70) and novels written by French Holocaust survivors or their children. Views Jean Cayrol's "Lazare parmi nous" as a manifest for literature which does not fall silent before the unspeakable fact of the Holocaust, but makes the unspeakable its starting point. Gives Georges Perec as an example of a Lazarean writer. Examines, also, how the question of God has mobilized young French writers since the 1990s.
