Abstract:
Surveys writings, mostly by American and British theologians since the 1960s, that seek to revise Luther's anti-Judaistic interpretation of Paul - an interpretation taken over by most later Lutheran theologians. Whereas Luther understood Paul as condemning "the works of the Torah", the "new" theologians argue that Paul's intention was solely to extend salvation also to the Gentiles who believed in Christ, without their having to obey the Torah. Paul's view of the role of the Torah in the salvation of the Jews is interpreted differently by the different theologians, but all agree that he did not condemn it, though he may have condemned certain anti-Gentile aspects of it.
