Kurzfassung:
An overview of the points of contention in Christian anti-Jewish arguments (e.g. the Jews' refusal to accept Jesus as the Messiah, the "perniciousness" of the Talmud) presented in polemical writings and in public and private disputations. Notes that the Church allowed only specially trained persons to engage in interreligious disputation, particularly Dominicans and Franciscans, and mentions the seditious role of Jewish apostates who initiated the attacks against the Talmud. Discusses the importance of conversion in Christian theology in general, and in medieval Spain in particular, and describes the events of the disputations of Barcelona (1263) and Tortosa (1413-14). When, by the end of the 15th century, the Jews of Spain had not all converted, the rulers adopted the extreme measure of expulsion.
