Kurzfassung:
Contends that the Church sanctified four Gospels, out of the ca. 300 that were found, at least in part due to their antisemitic content. In accordance with these four Gospels, the Jews were blamed for the death of Jesus for centuries, and were not totally exonerated even by the "Nostra Aetate", which stated that only the Jews of that time were culpable. Discusses the view of former Israeli Supreme Court Judge Haim H. Cohn in his "Mishpato u-moto shel Yeshu ha-Notsri" ("The Trial and Death of Jesus", 1968), where he points out that the Gospels were written much later than the events - the earliest, Mark, between 70-72 CE, and the latest, John, ca. 110 CE. It was important for the followers of Jesus at that time to portray the Romans as sympathetic to their cause, and themselves as loyal to Rome, so the Jews were blamed for his death. While it is generally accepted that both Romans and Jews took part in Jesus' arrest, Cohn contends that the Jews could not have had any part in the decision to kill him, due to the workings of Roman law. Notes that Pope Benedict XVI, in his "Jesus of Nazareth" (2011), views the Gospels not as historical texts, but as religious ones, and therefore does not blame the Jews for the death of Jesus.
