Abstract:
Traces the history of the "Protocols", relating how this forged work was published and republished in the early 1900s, and how it was received enthusiastically. The "Protocols" continued a tradition, begun by Abbé Barruel in the early 19th century, of explaining great historical events as resulting from a worldwide conspiracy. After the Russian Revolution, the "Protocols" gained worldwide circulation and inspired the Nazis in Germany. The "Protocols" was exposed as a forgery by Philip Graves in 1921, as well as at the trial held in Bern in 1934-37; nevertheless, it is still popular after World War II.
