Abstract:
Describes a polemical work by a Catholic priest who was tutored by four Jewish scholars in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Jewish laws and customs. His massive work (ca. 1500 pages), "Mura Žydowska" ("Jewish Nightmare"), was never published. The first 34 of its 40 chapters describe the daily life of the Jews. The last six chapters deal with matters of controversy between Jews and Christians, the alleged blasphemy of Jews against Christian persons and customs, Jewish oaths, and the Jewish expectation of the Messiah. Although Jugl had friendly personal contacts with certain Jewish scholars, he took a strong position against the Jewish and Protestant religions.
