Abstract:
Discusses Britain's treatment of Holocaust refugees, focusing on three Jewish writers originally from Vienna (Lind, however, immigrated to England in 1954). Describes Britain's restrictive immigration laws, the antisemitism and xenophobia of much of the population, the internment of refugees ("enemy aliens") at the beginning of the war, and their deportation to Canada or Australia. Gives examples of British discrimination and prejudice against Jews as related in the writings of Canetti, Fried, and Lind.
