Abstract:
In recent years a new approach has developed in historiography - a focus on the everyday life of individuals, on common people, rather than on political developments and on leaders. This approach may be applied to Holocaust history which, in regard to its Jewish aspect, is greatly non-political. There is ample material which makes it possible to reconstruct Jewish everyday life under Nazi occupation. Proposes a methodology for examining life in Eastern Europe, which concentrates on various strata in the Jewish population and on four conditions of Jewish existence under the Nazis (in ghettos, camps, in the forests and in hiding). As an example, analyzes the perception of reality by two intellectuals who were living in the Warsaw ghetto - Emanuel Ringelblum and Chaim Kaplan.
