Abstract:
Discusses waves of antisemitic violence, mainly in Western Europe and particularly in France and Belgium, since the outbreak of the second Intifada in October 2000. For the first time, radical Islam has become the center of antisemitism, rather than Christianity. Muslims are using antisemitic propaganda for political purposes, consciously blurring distinctions between the Jews and Israel, and between antisemitism and anti-Zionism. Muslim propaganda uses Christian stereotypes of Jews, branding them as greedy people, murderers, and conspirators. Due to this propaganda, the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East has been accepted, especially by Europeans, as a racial one, although it is a territorial conflict between two Semitic peoples. In their desire to remove the shadow of the Holocaust from their midst, Europeans brand Israelis as murderous aggressors, like the Nazis. For the radical Muslims, however, attacking Israel and the Jews is only the first step in their struggle against democracy and Western values.
