Abstract:
Warns of the danger of a solitary Jewish focus in Holocaust studies, contending that intellectually responsible Holocaust study and education is interfaith, international, and interdisciplinary. The Holocaust cuts across every academic discipline and involves the life and liberty of every free citizen. States that there is a credibility crisis for Christianity in the post-Auschwitz scene, as well as a credibility crisis for the modern university and for theories of democracy. Presents questions to Christians, to academics, and to citizens in free societies which need to be addressed. Emphasizes that the study and articulation of the lessons of the Holocaust must above all avoid premature closure.
