Abstract:
Discusses the views of Bernard Lewis and Daniel Pipes concerning fundamentalist Islam. Lewis sees the Islamist threat as a clash of civilizations. Longing to return to the golden age of Islam, fundamentalists blame the West and the Jews for their downfall. They consider the secularism of Jews, Americans, and the West in general to be a "neo-pagan evil in the modern world". Pipes views fundamentalist Muslims as a threat, particularly to the Jews, because they want to institute Islamic law worldwide. He contends that fundamentalist Muslims should be weakened and the voices of moderate Muslims should be heard.
