Abstract:
Garaudy's work (published 1995/6) was widely and favorably discussed in the Arab press. Treats four elements of the discussion: 1) the attribution of European antisemitism to Jewish particularism and the perceived Jewish threat; 2) the Nazi-Zionist collaboration theory, on the basis of the affinity between the two racist ideologies and a common interest in Jewish emigration from Germany, and the view that Israeli policy continues to be Nazi; 3) Holocaust denial or relativization, based on Western sources such as the "Leuchter Report"; 4) condemnation of the suppression of Holocaust denial by European countries under Jewish-Zionist pressure, and of exploitation of the Holocaust by Jews to justify Zionism and to extort reparations payments. Notes that in the Arab press there is no differentiation between Jews and Zionists, who are all accused of lust for power, control of the media, and world conspiracy. The arguments of Islamists and leftists are much the same, though with differences in emphasis.
Note:
A French version appeared in "Sens" 54,5 and 6 (2002) and another one in the "Revue d'Histoire de la Shoah" 180 (2004). Translated from the English, which appeared in the monograph series "Analysis of Current Trends in Antisemitism" 17 (2001).
