Abstract:
Presents a critique of Igor Shafarevich’s book "Russophobia" (1989). Holds that the antisemitic fervor of this book contravenes Shafarevich’s self-identification as "a Christian". Contends that it was Ilya Glazunov who invented the idea of a "small nation" in its antisemitic context; his pseudo-religious paintings, displayed at his exhibition in Moscow in 1978, bore an antisemitic message. Argues that there is no notion of another’s guilt in genuine Christianity, only a notion of "my" guilt or "our" guilt. True Christianity is transnational and is incompatible with nationalism and antisemitism.
