Abstract:
"Conciliador", a work of three volumes (1632–51), was an attempt by Menasseh ben Israel to reconcile discordant passages in the Bible. He used primarily the Talmud and the classical Jewish commentaries, but he also frequently quoted from the early Christian authorities as well as Greek and Latin authors of antiquity. Written in Spanish, it was aimed primarily to strengthen the faith of the Conversos in the veracity of the Bible according to Jewish interpretation. It established Menasseh ben Israel's reputation as a scholar in the Jewish and Christian communities.
