Abstract:
In 1905, the celebration was for 250 years since the first permanent Jewish immigrants were given permission by the Dutch West India Company to remain and establish a Jewish community in New Amsterdam (later, New York), and in 1954 it was 300 years since that event. The first celebration was organized by New York's Jewish communal leaders, who sent messages to all the congregations in the United States to celebrate on the Sabbath before Thanksgiving.
