Abstract:
Based on examination of Gestapo files from the areas of Plock and Ciechanów, in Mazovia, shows that among both "Reich Germans" and ethnic Germans ("Volksdeutsche") in this area, there were people who dared to stand up against the Nazi regime. Describes responses of the authorities, mainly the Gestapo, to such cases. Pp. 33-37 deal with Gestapo investigations of cases of "Judenfreundlichkeit" (kindness to Jews), including minor favors bestowed on Jews by Germans. There were also rare examples of sympathy for Jews on the part of members of the Nazi terror apparatus; some of these were based on greed, others were purely personal in nature.
