Abstract:
Discusses Holocaust discourse in Germany, arguing that the more the Holocaust recedes in time the more it is present in public debates. Coping with the Holocaust in the public sphere occurs on three different levels: the production of movies, literature, and scientific studies; publication of testimonies and memoirs written after the Holocaust; and dissemination and use of direct testimonies, such as documents, letters, photographs, and material relics, e.g. concentration camps which have been transformed into memorial places.
