Abstract:
Defines literary antisemitism as "the potential or capacity of a text to encourage or positively evaluate antisemitic attitudes or behaviors". The history of early antisemitism evinces the development of a myth in regard to the Jewish people and its religion as being hostile to society. Also, the emphasis on preaching about the Jews' guilt for the death of Jesus was carried into Christian literature (e.g. in the medieval passion play), giving rise to a negative Jewish stereotype, which was later amplified in modern literature with racial and cultural elements.
