Abstract:
Discusses the opposing sides of the debate about Kahane and Kahanism that ensued after Meir Kahane was elected to the Knesset in 1984. Kahane's slogan "never again" is related to his view that the "goyim" and, in particular, the Arabs (epitomized by their terror groups) hate the Jews and seek their annihilation, as did the Nazis. He also saw the danger of spiritual annihilation posed by the secular leadership of the Jewish state, whose policies he compared to those of the Nazis and who, he claimed, desecrated the memory of the six million martyrs. Opponents of Kahane pointed to similarities between his racist views and proposals, and those of the Nazis. Kahane believed that Jews living in the diaspora were in danger of their lives and should move to Israel immediately, despite the threat that he saw facing the Jewish state.
