Abstract:
Discusses the results of the 1990 General Social Survey, with the participation, among others, of 1,119 White non-Jewish respondents. Contrary to conclusions reached by the Adorno group in 1950, and by two national surveys conducted in 1964 and 1981, this survey revealed only weak correlations between antisemitism and a broader attitudinal syndrome including conservative, racist, authoritarian, and isolationist attitudes. There were also no clear-cut differences between respondents with higher or lower education levels. The results suggest a diminished role for antisemitism in authoritarian attitude syndromes.
Note:
Among American white non-Jews.
