Abstract:
Contends that 99% of today's Muslims are exposed to the entrenched antisemitism of Muslim theology via the traditional body of Qur'an interpretation, the "Hadith". Focuses on interpretation of a phrase in the last verse of chapter one in the Qur'an, "those who have incurred Your wrath", as being the Jews. This interpretation is propagated not only among Muslims who know Arabic but also, via explanatory notes, among those who read the Qur'an in translation, including English. Other Islamic traditions, e.g. that the Jew is the enemy against whom the final battle against evil must be fought and that the Jew is the Anti-Christ, give little grounds for hope for peace with Jews. Such interpretations are authoritative both for Sunni and Shiite Muslims. Only the Ismailis (less than 1% of Muslims) do not share the negative portrayal of the Jew.
