Abstract:
Describes various antisemitic incidents which took place in postwar Austria, such as conflicts with Displaced Persons, public declarations by politicians, and articles in the press. The Allied forces were only interested in official denazification and failed to influence the latent antisemitic opinions of the population. Public discussion on antisemitism and Austria's role in World War II, which might have prevented these incidents, did not take place so as to maintain the official position that Austria was a victim of Nazi aggression. As a result, Austria did not pay reparations. Latent antisemitism was also a factor in this decision.
