Abstract:
Herbert Stein (b. 1912), the owner of a well-known bookstore in Jerusalem, relates his life story to Wolzogen. A resident of Frankfurt am Main, he was arrested during the "Kristallnacht" pogrom (November 1938) and interned in Buchenwald. He was freed, along with his father and brother, in December. The two brothers received certificates to immigrate to Palestine, where they arrived in March 1939. Stein’s parents were deported to Theresienstadt. In the beginning of 1945, they were part of an exchange deal arranged with the Nazis, and were sent to Switzerland. Later, they immigrated to Israel.
