Abstract:
The establishment of the Abrahamic religions in Europe and the Mediterranean region roughly between the 4th and 9th centuries not only triggered a profound change in religious practices and content. It also indicates a fundamental change in the conceptions of religion and its social significance as a whole. The article contains observations on the changes in the role of ‚religion‘ in the course of this process, on the differences between Christianity, Judaism and Islam, and on the identity offerings of the three religions.
Abstract:
The article deals with the complex history of coexistence, cooperation and enmity between Jews, Christians and Muslims up to the beginning of modern times in the form of theses, whose own traditions and public image are distorted by clichés and stories of catastrophes. They deal ofThe appearance of monotheistic concepts based on „Holy Scriptures“ as a leap in quality compared to traditional religions, their positive and negative potential. The enduring dependency of Christianity from Judaism, the momentous dissociation from each other, the fate of Jews under Christian rule in pre-Islamic times. The religious origin of Islam from Jewish and Christian traditions present in Arabia, its seizure of power in the Middle East and the multiple consequences for the Jews and Christians living there.A final conclusion draw consequences from the results for current situations of coexistence of monotheistic world religions and for those involved in the dialogue between them.
