Kurzfassung:
Discusses humanistic, theological, and eschatological ideas which shaped the view of French Protestants on Jewish emancipation, antisemitism, and Zionism between the Dreyfus Affair and World War II, leading them to play an active role in the rescue of Jews during the Shoah. Distinguishes three different attitudes toward Jews in Protestant theology: Jews, like all men, are sinners who can reach salvation through Christ; they are a chosen people with positive, though inadequate, national aspirations; their continued existence is proof of God's mercy. Catholics and nationalists who attacked the Jews were viewed by Protestants as betraying the Old Testament and reverting to Greek and pagan ideals.
