Abstract:
This research takes as its starting point the observation that the narrative in Gen 4 represents a break in Gen 1-11. This break introduces in this text the theme of violence for the first time, at the beginning inside a brotherhood without brotherly relations, and then in a civilized and developed society without any family environment. This observation leads, around this topic of violence, to an exegetical inquiry, which uses a careful literary analysis of the pericope to specify the ideological, anthropological and theological functions of the text, throughout the origins narrative and more widely throughout the entire Pentateuch.
