Abstract:
Outlines the revival of controversy over antisemitism and the fate of the Jews during the Second World War following Barbie's trial, Le Pen's minimization of the Holocaust, revisionism and the policy of obscuring historical realities in the name of closer relations between France and West Germany. Surveys several books recently published in France on the subject and discusses the issues raised by them: the origins of Nazi racism, focusing on the theories of Alfred Rosenberg and their influence in France; the development of revisionism, given legitimacy by the academic position of some of its practitioners; and the Jewish role in the Resistance.
