Abstract:
Examines the 1989 trials of two militant Islamic fundamentalists, charged, among other things, with antisemitic agitation. The first trial involved Ahmed Rami, director of Radio Islam in Sweden, who used biblical quotations to portray the Jews as greedy, sadistic, exploitative, and criminal, and denied the Holocaust. Rami claimed that his target was Israel, not the Jews, but was found guilty. Sheikh Yasin of Gaza, a leader of the Hamas, was tried in Israel in connection with terrorist acts and the spreading of anti-Zionist and antisemitic propaganda based on both the Qur'an and the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". Concludes that Islamic fundamentalism harbors deep hostility towards Jews, Zionism, and Israel, all of which it regards as one unit. It rejects Western society, but focuses on Israel and Jews as a convenient target for hatred which is easily translated into acts of terror and violence.
