Abstract:
Discusses the social functions and leadership roles of the Zionist youth movements in the ghettos of Poland and Lithuania, with a focus on Warsaw and Vilna. They published newsletters, maintained contacts with the outside world through couriers, sustained the spiritual stature of the young people, and they organized armed resistance. The latter activity was the turning-point which created an alternative of youth movement leadership, as opposed to the Jewish Councils and the general public.
