Abstract:
Agriculture cannot escape a geopolitical analysis, particularly when it comes to the Middle East. Like all countries in the region, Israeli agriculture deserves to be viewed through this prism: it was central to the territorial construction of the Yishuv and then of Israel; it was the receptacle of a socialist and ultimately nationalist ideology; it was supported by an unparalleled technological investment that now constitutes a soft power for the country. This use of technology in Israel’s international projection is all the more important as the country’s image has deteriorated as a result of the policy of dispossession of the Palestinians, which is being pushed ever further and to which Israeli agriculture is participating. If for Israel, agriculture has thus been a vector of social emancipation and in relation to natural constraints, it is also a tool of colonial control. It is to this contradiction that this article is dedicated.
