Abstract:
During the past decade, many Jews in Israel and abroad have begun to believe that the hostility increasingly seen around the world is primarily a form of antisemitism rather than rejection of Israeli policies. In opposition to this view, Scham traces the evolution of this perception of antisemitism from the 1960s to the present. Contends that the period after 1967 was marked with an unexpected rise in religion as a significant factor in the Middle East conflict - on the part of both Muslims and Jews. In Israel, society has identified Zionism with religious Judaism. In the Muslim world, especially after the Iranian revolution in 1979, fundamentalist Islamic parties came to occupy a leading role in the struggle against Israel.
