Abstract:
Discusses the relationship between the Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa) and the Jews during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.. Relates that ca. 60 Jews were murdered in August-September 1944 by insurgents from the Polish right-wing extremist camp. In addition, Jewish women had been repeatedly raped, there had been manhunts for hidden Jews, and Jewish comrades-in-arms in various groups of the insurgents had been discriminated against. As evidence, cites a large number of previously unknown documents, testimonies and reports. However, refers also to solidarity shown by many Home Army fighters towards Jews. This article was originally a review of Calel Perechodnik's memoir, "Czy ja jestem morderca?" (1993), in which he writes about his own experiences in the 1944 Uprising until his death from typhus that same year.
